課程概述

社會運動是一股改變社會的集體力量。許多我們目前習以為常的觀念與制度,實際上往往是來自於先前的群眾抗爭、異端邪說,經歷了共同動員與成功挑戰的過程,最後才成為當前的主流共識。就其起源而言,社會運動通常是代表社會上被排斥的利益與部門,其組織化的過程也常受到國家與統治階級的打壓。然而,弱勢人民如何建構自己的權力組織,持續地與當局互動、施壓,說服旁觀者、取得輿論大眾的同情與支持,分析這些社會運動現象則是需要各種的社會學次領域來作為輔助。
作一種民主政治現象,社會運動表達了不同利益部門的衝突,因此政治社會學的觀點是有助益的。沒有強大的組織資源,弱勢群眾無法改變其既有的命運,因此,組織社會學的洞見可以幫助我們理解社會運動的權力源頭。此外,社會運動並不只是赤裸裸的權力鬥爭、同時也是一種文化的對抗。新時代的社會運動更強調集體認同、生活方式、媒體呈現、運動文化,這些現象也需要文化社會學的分析。本課程希望透過文獻閱讀、討論的方式,來幫助修課同學熟悉當前分析社會運動的諸種觀點。
 

課程目標
在目前,社會運動的研究已經相當建制化了,已經形成一套標準化的分析概念,甚至也有已經累積聲望的專業研究期刊。這樣的專業化發展趨勢是否意味著了社會運動領域的成熟,亦是意味著其越來越封閉與自我指涉,這是一個經常被討論的議題。有鑑於此,這門課就著重於當代社會運動研究之奠基性文本(founding texts),我期待課程能夠多花時間探討若干基本概念的意涵與其後續使用。關於晚近的佔領運動,與革命的社會學研究,我在其他課程已經有開授課過,所選擇的閱讀文本不在本課程之重覆。請有興趣的同學可以參考CEIBA之公佈欄。 
課程要求
這一門研究所的課程,除了講員授課以外,我期待學生自發性地提出問題,無論是針對講員的授課內容疑義,或是個人心得分享。主動提問與發表看法,不僅是學生的受教權益,也會影響課堂表現的分數。
指定讀物是每次授課的主要內容,希望學生能在上課前先抽空閱讀其內容。每週的讀物都要有學生負責口頭報告,並且準備簡單的書面內容。負責同學除了整理、說明讀物的內容主旨以外,更要加以評論、發表個人感想、提供課堂討論的主題。我會期待同學能夠在課堂報告之前,能夠充份準備,自行將必要的背景知識補足。
為了鼓勵所有同學事先閱讀的習慣,並且避免淪為只有負責口頭報告同學有讀的不良風氣,上課同學最少要繳交10次的「隨堂心得」。「隨堂心得」是針對每週指定閱讀內容(不得與負責口頭報告的內容一樣)的個人提問,其內容務必精簡,篇幅不超過200字。在每週二晚上十點之前,需要將「隨堂心得」email給負責報告的同學,其內容將會成為上課討論的一部分。
期中與期末有兩次的「讀書心得」,每次不得少於4,000字。其內容需要是與課程指定閱讀內容有關,或其運用延伸。讀書心得可以用「研究紀要」(research note)的方式撰寫,建議以課程臚列的相關參考文獻找寫作的靈感或題材。
如果涉及抄襲,依校規處理。第一次讀書心得報告不得晚於第八週,第二次不得晚於第十六週(1/8)。請用MS-Word格式存檔,並且透過CEIBA系統作業區繳交。
每週進行方式如下:
(1)第一堂課:講員簡介(5分鐘)、口頭報告I(20分鐘)、課堂討論(25分鐘)。
(2)第二堂課:口頭報告II(20分鐘)、課堂討論(30分鐘)。
(3)第三堂課:「隨堂心得」之討論(50分鐘)
除了第六週的《自由之夏》以外,本課程的上課講義會在帝宇影印店製作,請同學在第一次上課時登記份數,並且自行前往購買。帝宇是在辛亥路2段155號1樓(台大校園對面),電話2736-8495。
《自由之夏》將會列為課程指定書籍,保留於圖書館專區。
